Ein Herz, das seinen Jesum lebend weiß,
Empfindet Jesu neue Güte
Und dichtet nur auf seines Heilands Preis.

Tenor:
A heart that knows its Jesus living
feels the new loving-kindness of Jesus
and writes only in his saviour's praise.

Alt:
Wie freuet sich ein gläubiges Gemüte.

how a believing soul is happy.

Auf, Gläubige, singet die lieblichen Lieder,
Euch scheinet ein herrlich verneuetes Licht.
Der lebende Heiland gibt selige Zeiten,
Auf, Seelen, ihr müsset ein Opfer bereiten,
Bezahlet dem Höchsten mit Danken die Pflicht.

Up, believers, sing the delightful songs,
on you shines a glorious renewed light.
The living saviour gives blessed times.
Up souls, you must prepare a sacrifice,
pay your duty to the highest with thanks.

Recitative [Alto, Tenor]

Continuo

Continuo

Tenor:
Wohl dir, Gott hat an dich gedacht,
O Gott geweihtes Eigentum;

Tenor:
You are fortunate, God has thought of you,
o you who are the consecrated property of God,
The saviour lives and conquers with might.
For your salvation, for his own fame
must now Satan fearfully tremble
and Hell itself be shaken.
The saviour dies for your good
and journeys to Hell for you,
even pours out his precious blood,
so that you may be victorious in his blood;
for this can conquer the enemy
and when the strife for you penetrates to the soul
so that you even then may not lie overcome.

Alt:
Mein Herr, mein Gott, mein auferstandnes Heil,

Alto:
The might of love is for me a banner
for heroic courage, for strength in the strife.
To prepare for me the crown of victory
you took the crown of thorns upon yourself,
my lord, my God, my resurrected saviour,
so no enemy has a share in me for harm.

Tenor:
Die Feinde zwar sind nicht zu zählen.

Tenor:
The enemy indeed are innumerable,

Alt:
Gott schützt die ihm getreuen Seelen.

God protects the soul that has been true to him.

Tenor:
Der letzte Feind ist Grab und Tod.

Tenor:
The last enemy is the grave and death.

Alt:

Alto:
God makes even that an end to our distress.

Aria (Duet) [Alto, Tenor]

Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

We thank and praise your fervent love
and bring an offering of the lips for you.
The victor awakens the joyful songs,
the saviour appears and comforts us again
and strengthens the quarrelling church through himself.

Recitative [Alto, Tenor]

Continuo

Continuo

Tenor:
Doch würke selbst den Dank in unserm Munde,
In dem er allzu irdisch ist;
Ja schaffe, dass zu keiner Stunde
Dich und dein Werk kein menschlich Herz vergisst;
Ja, lass in dir das Labsal unsrer Brust
Und aller Herzen Trost und Lust,
Die unter deiner Gnade trauen,
Vollkommen und unendlich sein.
Es schließe deine Hand uns ein,
Dass wir die Wirkung kräftig schauen,
Was uns dein Tod und Sieg erwirbt
Und dass man nun nach deinem Auferstehen
Nicht stirbt, wenn man gleich zeitlich stirbt,
Und wir dadurch zu deiner Herrlichkeit eingehen

Tenor:
But bring about yourself the thanks in our mouths,
although it is too earthly,
yes, ordain that at no hour
no human heart forgets you and your work
yes,let the refreshment of our breasts in you
and the comfort and joy of all hearts
who trust in your mercy
be perfect and everlasting.
Let your hand enclose us
so that we may see the mighty effect
that your death and victory gain for us,
and that after your resurrection we
do not die, even if we die for a time,
and by this we enter into your glory.

Alt:
Was in uns ist, erhebt dich, großer Gott,
Und preiset deine Huld und Treu;
Dein Auferstehen macht sie wieder neu,
Dein großer Sieg macht uns von Feinden los
Und bringet uns zum Leben;
Drum sei dir Preis und Dank gegeben.

Alto:
What is in us exalts you, great God,
and praises your grace and faithfulness
Your resurrection makes these again new,
your great victory frees us from our enemies
and brings us to life
Therefore may praise and thanks be given to you.

Chorus [S, A, T, B]

Oboe I/II, Violino I col Soprano, Violino II coll'Alto, Viola col Tenore, Continuo

Resound, you heavens, rejoice, earth
sing praise to the highest, you throng of believers.
Each spirit sees and tastes
the unending loving-kindness of the living saviour
He comforts us and appears as victor.
