Der Friede sei mit dir,
Du ängstliches Gewissen!
Dein Mittler stehet hier,
Mein Herz, was bist du so betrübt,
Da dich doch Gott durch Christum liebt!
Er selber spricht zu mir:
Der Friede sei mit dir!

Peace be with you,
you anxious conscience !
Your mediator stands here,
by him the book of your guilt
and the law's curse
have been settled and torn up.
Peace be with you,
the prince of this world
who hunted after your soul,
is conquered and felled through the Lamb's blood.
My soul, why are you so distressed,
since God loves you through Christ!
He himself says to me:
peace be with you!

Violino solo, Oboe col Soprano, Continuo

Bass:
Welt, ade, ich bin dein müde,
Salems Hütten stehn mir an,

Bass:
World, farewell, I am weary of you,
the tents of Salem suit me better,

Sopran:
Welt, ade, ich bin dein müde,
Ich will nach dem Himmel zu,

Soprano:
World, farewell, I am weary of you,
I want to go to heaven,

Bass:
Wo ich Gott in Ruh und Friede
Ewig selig schauen kann.

Bass:
where in peace and calm
I can in bliss gaze on God for ever.

Sopran:
Da wird sein der rechte Friede
Und die ewig stolze Ruh.

Soprano:
there will be true peace
and eternal majestic calm.

Bass:
Da bleib ich,
da hab ich Vergnügen zu wohnen,

Bass:
There I shall stay,
there I shall delight to dwell,

Sopran:
Welt, bei dir ist Krieg und Streit,
Nichts denn lauter Eitelkeit;

Soprano:
World, with you is war and strife,
nothing but pure vanity;

Bass:
Da prang ich gezieret
mit himmlischen Kronen.

Bass:
There I shall be resplendent adorned
with heavenly crowns.

Sopran:
In dem Himmel allezeit
Friede, Freud und Seligkeit.

Soprano:
In heaven at all times
peace, joy and bliss.

Continuo

Continuo

Nun, Herr, regiere meinen Sinn,
Damit ich auf der Welt,
So lang es dir, mich hier zu lassen, noch gefällt,
Ein Kind des Friedens bin,
Und lass mich zu dir aus meinen Leiden
Wie Simeon in Frieden scheiden!

Now, Lord, govern my thoughts
so that in the world,
so long as it pleases you to leave me here,
I may be a child of peace,
and let me from my sufferings
like Simeon depart to you in peace!

Da bleib ich, da hab ich Vergnügen zu wohnen,
Da prang ich gezieret mit himmlischen Kronen.

There I shall stay, there I shall have delight to live,
there I shall be resplendent adorned with heavenly crowns.

Chorale [S, A, T, B]

Instrumentierung nicht überliefert

Hier ist das rechte Osterlamm,
Davon Gott hat geboten;
Das ist hoch an des Kreuzes Stamm
In heißer Lieb gebraten.
Des Blut zeichnet unsre Tür,
Das hält der Glaub dem Tode für;
Der Würger kann uns nicht rühren.
Alleluja!

Here is the true Easter Lamb
decreed by God;
that high on the beam of the cross
was burnt in ardent love.
His blood marks our doors,
this is used by faith to ward off death;
the strangler cannot touch us.
Alleluia!
