Geraint Roberts (Tenor)

Born: Swansea, Wales, UK

The English tenor, Geraint Roberts, studied at Trinity College Carmarthen (certificate of education, music art - 1976-1980). He studied singing with Kenneth Bowen at the Royal Academy of Music in London (1979-1983). During his studies he won several awards, including the Tankard Prize for rendition of Lieder.

After his studies, Geraint Roberts sang for four years in the choir of the Welsh National Opera (1982-1987), where he was responsible for several solo performances in smaller roles. In 1987, an appointment at the Netherlands Radio Choir (Groot Omroepkoor) in Hilversum followed (March 1988-July 1992). With this choir has sung several solos, including the role of Eustazio in the opera Armida by Rossini for a television broadcast in the series VARA-matinee on Saturday Fre (Vrije Zaterdag).

Since 1991, Geraint Roberts has a European freelance career as an oratorio singer. He has worked with several choirs, including the Collegium Vocale Gent and La Chapelle Royale conducted by Philippe Herreweghe. He is also a regular guest with the Amsterdam Baroque Choir conducted by Ton Koopman, where he has participated in the recording project of all the Bach Cantatas. This year he sings arias from Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach with The English Concert conducted by Trevor Pinnock. He currently resides in Amsterdam.
