First Part

1

Choir

Dem Gerechten muß das Licht immer wieder aufgehen
For the righteous person the light must always rise again
und Freude den frommen Herzen.
and joy for devout hearts
Ihr Gerechten, freuet euch des Herrn
You who are righteous, rejoice in the Lord
und danket ihm und preiset seine Heiligkeit.
and thank him and praise his holiness.

2

Recitative [Bass]

Dem Freudenlicht gerechter Frommen
To the joyful light of those who are righteous and devout
Muß stets ein neuer Zuwachs kommen,
there must always come a new increase,
Der Wohl und Glück bei ihnen mehrt.
which well-being and happiness multiply for them
Auch diesem neuen Paar,
Also for this new couple
An dem man so Gerechtigkeit
Als Tugend ehrt,
in whom we honour righteousness as much as virtue
Ist heut ein Freudenlicht bereit',
is today a joyful light prepared
Das stellet neues Wohlsein dar,
that shows their new well-being.
O ein erwünscht Verbinden,
Oh what a desirable union!
So können zwei ihr Glück eins an dem andern finden.
So may these two find their happiness one in another.

3

Aria [Bass]

Rühmet Gottes Güt und Treu,
Praise God's goodness and truth
Rühmet ihn mit reger Freude,
Praise him with lively joy
Preiset Gott, Verlobten beide.
Praise God, betrothed couple.
Denn euer heutiges Verbinden
For your union today
Läßt euch lauter Segen finden,
lets you find pure blessing,
Licht und Freude werden neu.
lets light and joy become new.

4

Recitative [Soprano]

Wohlan, so knüpfet denn ein Band,
Well, a bond joins them in a way
Das so viel Wohlsein prophezeiet,
that prophesies so much well-being.
Des Priesters Hand
The priest's hand
Wird itzt den Segen
will now lay the blessing
Auf euren Ehestand,
on your married state,
Auf eure Scheitel legen.
on your heads [the parting of your hair]
Und wenn des Segens Kraft hinfort an euch gedeihet,
And when the power of the blessing thrives henceforth in you,
So rühmt des Höchsten Vaterhand,
then praise the father's hand of the Highest,
Er knüpfte selbst euer Liebesband
He himself ties your bond of love
Und ließ das, was er angefangen,
And allows that what he began
Auch ein erwünschtes End erlangen.
should also reach a longed for end.

5

Choir

Wir kommen, deine Heiligkeit,
We come, your holiness,
Unendlich großer Gott, zu preisen.
Everlasingly great God, to praise
Der Anfang rührt von deinen Händen,
The beginning stems from your hands,
Durch Allmacht kannst du es vollenden
Through your omnipotence you can accomplish it
Und deinen Segen kräftig weisen.
and show that your blessing is mighty.

Second Part

6

Choral

Nun danket all und bringet Ehr,
Now give thanks and and bring your praise,
Ihr Menschen in der Welt,
You men in the world.
Dem, dessen Lob der Engel Heer
To Him, whose praise the angel hosts
Im Himmel stets vermeld'.
Proclaim continually in heaven.
