Coro

1

Chorus[S, A, T, B]

That is indeed is certainly true and a most precious word
that Christ Jesus has come into the world
to make sinners blessed .

Aria T

2

Aria [Tenor]

Jesus ist der Menschen Heil.
Doch wer dieses will genießen,
muß sich wahrlich auch entschließen,
ohne falschen Heuchelschein
ihm alleine treu zu sein,
sonst wird ihm dies nicht zu Theil.

Jesus is the salvation of mankind
but whoever wishes to enjoy this
must decide sincerely for himself
without false hypocrisy
to trust in him alone,
otherwise he shall have no share in this.

Recitativo A

3

Recitative [Alto]

We must rightly in the spirit ask after him
and not merely say: here here is Christ,
since all hypocrites concern themselves with declarations,
otherwise we discredit the Gospel
as our best reputation:
but we keep this in mind
that if we have regard for his commands
and concern ourselves with the same without blame

then we know the saviour
In contrast if anyone calls himself a Christian
and still gives obedience to sin,
he is a liar and nothing more.

4

Aria B

4

Aria [Bass]

Jesu, Trost der Geistlich-Armen,
lass dich uns're Noth erbarmen,
hilf zur wahren Glaubens-Kraft.

Jesus, consolation of the poor in spirit,
have mercy on our distress,
help us to have the power of faith.

Gieb, daß wir uns dir befehlen
und kein falsches Wort erwählen,
daran das Verderben haft't.

Grant that we entrust ourselves to you
and choose no false word
which entails ruin.
