	Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan, What God does , that is done well, Es bleibt gerecht sein Wille; His will remains just. Wie er fängt meine Sachen an, However he deals with my affairs, Will ich ihm halten stille. I want calmly to place my whole trust in him. Er ist mein Gott, He is my God Der in der Not who in my troubles Mich wohl weiß zu erhalten; knows well how to support me; Drum laß ich ihn nur walten. therefore I yield power to him alone.

	Ach Gott! wenn wirst du mich einmal Ah God! when will you once and for all Von meiner Leidensqual, set me free from my suffering and torment, Von meiner Angst befreien? from my anxiety ? Wie lange soll ich Tag und Nacht For how long must I day and night Um Hilfe schreien? cry out for help ? Und ist kein Retter da! And there is no Saviour! Der Herr ist denen allen nah, The Lord is near to all those Die seiner Macht who trust his might Und seiner Huld vertrauen. and his grace. Drum will ich meine Zuversicht Therefore I want to build my confidence Auf Gott alleine bauen, on God alone, Denn er verläßt die Seinen nicht. for he does not forsake his people.

	Hört, ihr Augen, auf zu weinen! Cease, you eyes, to weep! Trag ich doch For I bear Mit Geduld mein schweres Joch. with patience my heavy yoke. Gott, der Vater, lebet noch, God the Father still lives, Von den Seinen of those who are his people Läßt er keinen. he abandons no one. Hört, ihr Augen, auf zu weinen! Cease, you eyes, to weep!

4	Recitative [Alto]

	Gott hat ein Herz, das des Erbarmens Überfluß; God has a heart that overflows with mercy; Und wenn der Mund vor seinen Ohren klagt and if within his hearing our mouth laments Und ihm des Kreuzes Schmerz and speaks to him about the pain of the cross Im Glauben und Vertrauen sagt, in faith and trust, So bricht in ihm das Herz, then his heart breaks, Daß er sich über uns erbarmen muß. so that he has to feel pity for us. Er hält sein Wort; He keeps his word; Er saget: Klopfet an, He says: Knock, So wird euch aufgetan! it will be opened to you ! Drum laßt uns alsofort, Therefore let us from now on Wenn wir in höchsten Nöten schweben, when we are hover amidst the greatest troubles Das Herz zu Gott allein erheben! raise our heart to God alone!
