1

Sinfonia

Oboe I/II, Taille, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

2

Aria [Tenor]

Oboe, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Ich habe meine Zuversicht
I have placed my confidence
Auf den getreuen Gott gericht',
in the faithful God,
Da ruhet meine Hoffnung feste.
there my hope rests firmly.
Wenn alles bricht, wenn alles fällt,
If everything breaks, if everything falls,
Wenn niemand Treu und Glauben hält,
if nobody keeps faithfulness and belief,
So ist doch Gott der allerbeste.
God is still the best of all.

3

Recitativo [Bass]

Continuo

Gott meint es gut mit jedermann,
God's intentions are good towards everyone,
Auch in den allergrößten Nöten.
even in the greatest troubles.
Verbirget er gleich seine Liebe,
If he hides his love for a time,
So denkt sein Herz doch heimlich dran,
yet his heart still secretly thinks of it,
Das kann er niemals nicht entziehn;
he can never take away his love;
Und wollte mich der Herr auch töten,
and even if the Lord were to kill me,
So hoff ich doch auf ihn.
I would still hope in him.
Denn sein erzürntes Angesicht
For his angry face
Ist anders nicht
is nothing but
Als eine Wolke trübe,
a gloomy cloud,
Sie hindert nur den Sonnenschein,
it only checks the sunshine
Damit durch einen sanften Regen
so that through a gentle rain
Der Himmelssegen
heaven's blessing
Um so viel reicher möge sein.
may be all the richer.
Der Herr verwandelt sich in einen grausamen,
The Lord transforms himself into a cruel God
Um desto tröstlicher zu scheinen;
so that he may appear more comforting;
Er will, er kann's nicht böse meinen.
He will not, he cannot have any evil intentions,
Drum lass ich ihn nicht, er segne mich denn.
therefore I shall not let him go, until he blesses me.

4

Aria [Alto]

Organo obligato, Violoncello

Unerforschlich ist die Weise,
Inscrutable is the way
Wie der Herr die Seinen führt.
in which the Lord leads his people.
Selber unser Kreuz und Pein
Even our cross and pain
Muß zu unserm Besten sein
must be all for the best for us
Und zu seines Namens Preise.
and for the glory of his name.

5

Recitative [Soprano]

Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Die Macht der Welt verlieret sich.
The might of the world disappears.
Wer kann auf Stand und Hoheit bauen?
Who can rely on status and grandeur?
Gott aber bleibet ewiglich;
But God remains forever;
Wohl allen, die auf ihn vertrauen!
Happy are those who place their trust in him!

6

Chorale [S, A, T, B]

Auf meinen lieben Gott
In my beloved God
Trau ich in Angst und Not;
I trust in anxiety and trouble;
Er kann mich allzeit retten
He can always deliver me
Aus Trübsal, Angst und Nöten;
from sorrow, anxiety, and troubles;
Mein Unglück kann er wenden,
he can change my misfortune,
Steht alls in seinen Händen.
everything is in his hands.
