Tritt auf die Glaubensbahn,
Gott hat den Stein geleget,
der Zion hält und träget,
Mensch, stoße dich nicht dran!

God has laid the stone
that supports and carries Zion,
Human, do not stumble over it!

Der Heiland ist gesetzt in Israel
zum Fall und Auferstehen!
Der edle Stein ist sonder Schuld,
wenn sich die böse Welt so hart an ihm verletzt,
ja über ihn zur Hölle fällt,
weil sie boshaftig an ihn rennet
und Gottes Huld und Gnade nicht erkennet!
Doch selig ist ein auserwählter Christ,
der seinen Glaubensgrund
auf diesen Eckstein leget,
weil er dadurch
Heil und Erlösung findet. |
The Savior has been placed in Israel
for its fall and resurrection!
This precious stone is without fault
even if the evil world is so sorely bruised upon it,
indeed, even tripping over it into hell,
for it spitefully rushes over it
and does not recognize God’s favor and grace!
Yet, blessed is a chosen Christian
who lays his own foundation of faith
upon this cornerstone,
for he through this
finds salvation and redemption. |

durch den Glauben auf die setze

Stone, surpassing all treasures,
help me at all times
through faith, to place upon you
my foundation for blessedness
and that I not be bruised by you,
stone, surpassing all treasures! |

Es ärgre sich die kluge Welt, daß Gottes Sohn
verläßt den hohen Ehrenthron,
daß er in Fleisch und Blut sich kleidet
und in der Menschheit leidet.
Die größte Weisheit dieser Erden
muß vor des Höchsten Rat
zur größten Torheit werden.
Was Gott beschloßen hat,
kann die Vernunft doch nicht ergründen;
die blinde Leiterin verführt den geistlich Blinden. |
The learned world is troubled that God’s Son
would abandon the high throne of honor,
that he would clothe himself in flesh and blood
and suffer as a human.
The greatest wisdom of this earth
before the counsel of the Most High
has to turn into the greatest folly.
What God has resolved
reason indeed cannot fathom;
the blind directress misleads the spiritually blind. |
