Choral

Auf, mein Herz, des Herren Tag
Up, my heart, the Lord's day
Hat die Nacht der Furcht vertrieben:
has driven away the night of fear
Christus, der im Grabe lag,
Christ, who lay in the grave,
Ist im Tode nicht geblieben.
has not remained in death
Nunmehr bin ich recht getröst,
From now on I am wholly comforted
Jesus hat die Welt erlöst.
Jesus has redeemed the world.

b

Chorus

Tromba, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

So du mit deinem Munde bekennest Jesum,
If you proclaim Jesus with your mouth
daß er der Herr sei,
that he is the Lord
und gläubest in deinem Herzen,
and believe in your heart
daß ihn Gott von den Toten auferwecket hat,
that God has raised him from the dead
so wirst du selig.
then you will be blessed.

1

Aria (Duetto) [Tenor, Soprano]

Violino solo, Continuo

Jesus (Tenor), Soul (Soprano)

Tenor:
Ich lebe, mein Herze, zu deinem Ergötzen,
I live, my heart, for your delight.

Soprano:
Du lebest, mein Jesu, zu meinem Ergötzen,
You live, my Jesus, for my delight,

Tenor:
Mein Leben erhebet dein Leben empor.
My life raises your life on high.

Soprano:
Dein Leben erhebet mein Leben empor.
Your life raises my life on high.

Both:
Die klagende Handschrift ist völlig zerrissen,
The complaining handwriting is completely torn up,
Der Friede verschalt ein ruhig Gewissen
the peace provides a quiet conscience
Und öffnet den Sündern das himmlische Tor.
and opens heaven's gate to sinners.

2

Recitative [Tenor]

Continuo

Nun fordre, Moses, wie du willt,
Now claim as much as you like Moses
Das dräuende Gesetz zu üben,
that we should practise the threatening law,
Ich habe meine Quittung hier
I have my receipt here
Mit Jesu Blut und Wunden unterschrieben.
signed with Jesus' blood and wounds.
Dieselbe gilt,
And this is valid,
Ich bin erlöst, ich bin befreit
I an redeemed, I am set free
Und lebe nun mit Gott in Fried und Einigkeit,
and live now with God in peace and unity.
Der Kläger wird an mir zuschanden,
The prosecutor will come to ruin in my case
Denn Gott ist auferstanden.
for God is arisen.
Mein Herz, das merke dir!
My heart, mark this for yourself!

3

Aria [Bass]

Tromba, Flauto traverso, Oboe d'amore I/II, Violino I/II, Continuo

Merke, mein Herze, beständig nur dies,
Mark, my heart, constantly only this,
Wenn du alles sonst vergißt,
if you forget everything else,
Daß dein Heiland lebend ist;
that your saviour is alive.
Lasse dieses deinem Gläuben
For your faith let this
Einen Grund und Feste bleiben,
remain a firm foundation.
Auf solche besteht er gewiß.
On such a base it stands secure
Merke, meine Herze, nur dies.
Mark, my heart, only this.

4

Recitative [Soprano]

Continuo

Mein Jesus lebt,
My Jesus lives
Das soll mir niemand nehmen,
no one shall take this from me
Drum sterb ich sonder Grämen.
And so I die without sorrow.
Ich bin gewiß
I am sure
Und habe das Vertrauen,
and have confidence
Daß mich des Grabes Finsternis
that the grave's darkness
Zur Himmelsherrlichkeit erhebt;
raises me to heaven's glory.
Mein Jesus lebt,
My Jesus lives
Ich habe nun genug,
I have now enough
Mein Herz und Sinn
My heart and mind
Will heute noch zum Himmel hin,
would go to heaven today
Selbst den Erlöser anzuschauen.
to look upon the redeemer himself.

5

Choral [S, A, T, B]

Zink e Flauto traverso e Oboe d'amore I e Violino I col Soprano, Oboe d'amore II e Violino II coll'Alto, Viola col Tenore, Continuo

Drum wir auch billig fröhlich sein,
Therefore we are rightly joyful
Singen das Halleluja fein
and sing halleluja well
Und loben dich, Herr Jesu Christ;
and praise you,Lord Jesus Christ,
Zu Trost du uns erstanden bist.
you who are arisen for our comfort.
Halleluja!
