Christoph Genz (Tenor)

Born: Erfurt, Gerrmany

The German tenor, Christoph Genz, began his musical studies as a member of the renowned Leipzig Thomanerchor, followed by study at King's College, Cambridge where he was also a member of the King’s College Choir. His private vocal studies were with Hans-Joachim Beyer at Leipzig’s Hochschule fur Musik and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. His prizes include First Place in Leipzig’s Bach Competition and Grimsby (England) International Singers Competition.

Hailed as one of the most exciting tenors to keep an eye on, Christoph Genz has performed worldwide with conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt, Philippe Herreweghe, Frans Brüggen, Marcus Creed, Ton Koopman, Sigiswald Kuijken, Sir Simon Rattle and Peter Schreier. He has given acclaimed lieder recitals at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, London’s Wigmore Hall and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and has a solo recording of lieder to his credit.

Christoph Genz is well represented on recordings, including Bach cantatas with Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) with Ludwig Güttler, Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang Symphony with Helmuth Rilling, and Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos with Giuseppe Sinopoli.

Personal remark by Galina Kolomietz: I just saw this man in concert. One word: WOW!
