Recitativo [Soprano]

Fagotto, Continuo

Falsche Welt, dir trau ich nicht!
Hier muss ich unter Skorpionen
Und unter falschen Schlangen wohnen.
Dein Angesicht,
Das noch so freundlich ist,
Sinnt auf ein heimliches Verderben:
Wenn Jaob küsst,
So muss ein frommer Abner sterben.
Die Redlichkeit ist aus der Welt verbannt,
Die Falschheit hat sie fortgetrieben,
Nun ist die Heuchelei
An ihrer Stelle blieben.
Der beste Freund ist ungetreu,
O jämmerlicher Stand!

False world, I do not trust you!
Here I must live among scorpions
and among false snakes.
Your face,
which is always so friendly,
is secretly plotting mischief.
When Joab kisses,
then a just Abner must die.
Plain dealing is banished from the world,
Falsehood has driven it away,
now hypocrisy
takes its place.
The best of friends is unfaithful
O lamentable condition!

Aria [Soprano]

Violino I/II, Fagotto, Continuo

Immerhin, immerhin,
Wenn ich gleich verstoßen bin!
Ist die falsche Welt mein Feind,
O so bleibt doch Gott mein Freund,
Der es redlich mit mir meint.

After all, after all,
If I am at once cast out,
If the false world is my enemy,
O then God still remains my friend,
And he will deal honestly with me.

Recitative [Soprano]

Fagotto, Continuo

Gott ist getreu!
Er wird, er kann mich nicht verlassen;
Will mich die Welt und ihre Raserei
In ihre Schlingen fassen,
So steht mir seine Hilfe bei.
Gott ist getreu!
Auf seine Freundschaft will ich bauen
Und meine Seele, Geist und Sinn
Und alles, was ich bin,
Ihm anvertrauen.
Gott ist getreu!

God is faithful!
He cannot, he will not abandon me;
If the world and its madness
seizes me in its snares,
Then my help stands beside me.
God is faithful!
On his friendship I shall build
And my soul, spirit and mind
And everything that I am
I shall entrust to him.

God is faithful!

Aria S

5

Aria [Soprano]

Oboe I-III, Fagotto, Continuo

Ich halt es mit dem lieben Gott,
Die Welt mag nur alleine bleiben.
Gott mit mir, und ich mit Gott,
Also kann ich selber Spott
Mit den falschen Zungen treiben.

I stay on the side of my dear God,
The world can do without me.
God with me and I with God,
In this way can I drive out
Mockery with its false tongues.

Choral

Chorale [S, A, T, B]

Oboe I/II e Violino I col Soprano, Oboe III e Violino II coll'Alto, Viola col Tenore, Corno I/II, Fagotto, Continuo

In dich hab ich gehoffet, Herr,
Hilf, dass ich nicht zuschanden werd,
Noch ewiglich zu Spotte!
Das bitt ich dich,
Erhalte mich
In deiner Treu, Herr Gotte!

In you have I hoped, Lord,
Help so that I may not be put to shame,
Nor derided forever!
I pray for this to you,
Maintain me
In your faithfulness, Lord God!
