English Translation

1

Ach Herr, mich armen Sünder
straf nicht in deinem Zorn ,
dein ernsten Grimm doch linder,
sonst ists mit mir verloren.
Ach Herr, wollst mir vergeben
mein Sünd und gnädlich sein,
daß ich mag ewig leben,
entfliehn der Höllenpein
.

Ah Lord, poor sinner that I am,
do not punish me in your rage,
but soften your stern wrath
otherwise I am lost.
Ah Lord, may it be your will to forgive
my sin and be merciful
so that I may live for ever
and flee from the pains of hell

2

Heil du mich, lieber Herre,
denn ich bin krank und schwach,
mein Herz, verwundet sehre,
leidet groß ungemach,
mein Gbeine sind erschrocken,
mir ist sehr angst und bang,
mein Seel ist auch erschrocken.
Ach du Herr, wie so lang!

Heal me, dear Lord,
for I am sick and weak,
my heart, seriously wounded,
suffers great trouble,
my bones are vexed,
I feel anxious and afraid,
my soul is also vexed.
Ah Lord, why do you take so long!

3

Herr, tröst mir mein Gemüte,
mein Seel rett, lieber Gott,
von wegen deiner Güte
hilf mir aus aller Not.
Im Tod, da ists ganz stille,
da denkst man deiner nicht;
wer will doch in der Hölle
dir danken ewiglich.

Lord, console my spirit,
rescue my soul, dear God,
for the sake of your goodness,
help me in my distress.
In death all is silent,
there is no one to think of you;
and who in hell will
thank you eternally ?

4

Ich bin von Seufzen müde,
hab weder Kraft noch Macht,
in großem Schweiß ich liege
durchaus die ganze Nacht.
mein Lager naß von Thränen,
mein Gstalt vor Trauern alt,
zu Tod ich mich fast gräme,
die Angst ist mannigfalt.

I am weary from sighs,
I have neither strength nor force,
I lie drenched in sweat
throughout the whole night,
my bed is soaked with tears,
|my body is aged with mourning,
I am almost dead with grief,
my anxiety takes many forms.

5

Nun weicht, ihr übelthäter,
mir ist geholfen schon.
Der Herr ist mein Erretter,
er nimmt mein Flehen an,
er hört meins Weinens Stimme,
es müssen falln geschwind
all sein und meine Feinde
und schändlich kommen um.

Now give way, you evildoers,
help has now come to me.
The Lord is my deliverer,
he accepts my entreaty,
he hears the voice of my weeping,
quickly there must fall away
all those who are his enemies
and my enemies and meet a shameful end.

6

Ehr sei ins Himmels Throne
mit hohem Ruhm und Preis
dem Vater und dem Sohne
und auch zu gleicher Weis
dem Heilgen Geist mit Ehren
in alle Ewigkeit,
der woll uns alln bescheren
die ewge Seligkeit.

May there be honour in heaven’s throne
with high renown and praise
to the Father and the Son
and also in a similar way
to the Holy Spirit with honour
in all eternity
who want to bestow on us
eternal blessedness.
