Sebastian Myrus (Baritone)

Born: Munich, Bavaria, Germany

The German baritone, Sebastian Myrus, started his musical training at the Windsbacher Knabenchor, afterwards he studied singing at the Academy of Music and Theatre in his hometown of Munich.

At the same time Sebastian Myrus visited the Opera School at the Bavarian Theatre Academy August Everding, where he started his operatic engagements with Giove in Cavalli’s La Calisto, Bottom in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Calchas in Offenbach’s La belle Hélène and Batone in Rossini’s l’Inganno felice. Later on he performed Purcell‘s King Arthur at the Markgräfliches Opernhaus Bayreuth, Mauricio Kagel's Staatstheater in the German Pavilion at the EXPO in Hanover and the world premiere of Staude’s Wir at the Münchner Biennale. For the children’s concerts with the Münchner Philharmoniker he played the role of Papageno, 2014 this project was continued with performances of Haydn’s Jahreszeiten and Schöpfung. Following appearances have been at the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele (Monteverdi: Madrigals), the Handel Festival in Halle (Saale) (George Frideric Handel's: Siroe) and finally at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin for the world premiere of Thomas Jennefelts opera Paulus.

Sebastian Myrus now mainly works as a concert singer, in particular performing sacred music of all époques, preferably the works of J.S. Bach. He took part in a number of recordings, e.g. the world premiere of Johann Adam Hiller’s oratorium Der Sohn des Zimmermanns. He sang Lieder by Haydn in Washington and Boston, J.S. Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium (BWV 248) in Qatar and will be touring with Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch through Vietnam in 2017.

Sebastian Myrus is member of renowned groups and ensembles, including the Belgian early music specialists Vox Luminis (Director: Lionel Meunier), Athesinus-Consort Berlin, Amsterdam Baroque Choir (Director: Ton Koopman), Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven), La Chapelle Harmonique (Director: Valentin Tournet), and Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe). With most of these groups he regularly is invited as a soloist.

As a concert soloist Sebastian Myrus has worked with the Münchner Symphoniker, Freiburger Barockorchester, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Neue Hofkapelle München, Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, Musica Amphion, Mendelssohn Kammerorchester Leipzig, Baroque Orchestra of Seville, Het Collectief and the Doha Baroque Ensmble. He sang under renowned conductors such as Gary Bertini, Marcus Creed, Philippe Herreweghe, Manfred Honeck, Reinbert de Leeuw, Enrico Onofri, Philippe Pierlot, Helmuth Rilling, Skip Sempé, Jean Tubéry and Jos van Veldhoven.

Future plans include tours to the USA, Korea and Brazil with Vox Luminis, Purcell’s Vox Luminis as festival opener in Saintes (France), Franz Liszt’s Via crucis with Het Collectief conducted by Reinbert de Leeuw and J.S. Bach's Oster-Oratorium (BWV 249) with the Nederlandse Bachvereniging.
