Rilling’s Magnificat |
Neil Halliday wrote (June 1, 2004):The 1979 recording (Sony Classical), with Augér, is shown to have a total playing time of 35 minutes, at the BCW. Is this correct? I think the 'Magnificat' would seem very slow at this speed; Munchinger's (30mins)seems to be as leisurely as one would want (except for the 'Suscepit Israel', which might be better at a slower speed). |
Alfred Krause wrote (June 1, 2004):[To Neil Halliday] It is so long because it is the "Christmas" version, interpolating between the movements at least three seasonal choraels, including (IIRC) at least two verses of "Vom Himmel hoch", |
Cara Emily Thornton wrote (June 1, 2004):[To Alfred Krause] I have the NBA full score of the Magnificat in D, and it contains an appendix with the following items from the E-flat major version of the Magnificat (transposed down half a step of course) to be interpolated into the 'regular' Magnificat text to form the 'Christmas version'. In the score is indicated where to place each item: A. 'Vom Himmel hoch' - only one stanza (after 'Et exultavit') B. 'Freut euch und jubiliert' (after 'Quia fecit mihi magna') C. 'Gloria in excelsis Deo' (after 'Fecit potentiam') D. 'Virga Jesse floruit' (after 'Esurientes') |
