English Translation

1

Auf Christi Himmelfahrt allein
ich meine Nachfahrt gründe
und allen Zweifel, Angst und Pein
hiermit stets überwinde.
Denn weil das Haupt im Himmel ist,
wird seine Glieder Jesus Christ
zur rechten Zeit nachholen
.

On Christ's ascension [journey to heaven] alone
I base my own later journey/ascension
and all doubt, anguish and pain
by this overcome forever;
for since the head is in heaven,
Jesus Christ later at the right time
will gather his members.

2

Weil er gezogen himmelan
und große Gab empfangen,
mein Herz auch nur im Himmel kann,
sonst nirgends, Ruh erlangen;
denn wo mein Schatz gekommen hin,
da ist auch stets mein Herz und Sinn,
nach ihm mich sehr verlanget.

Since he has moved to heaven
and received great gifts,
my heart also only in heaven,
nowhere else, can achieve peace;
for where my treasure has gone,
there also continually are my heart and mind,
I feel great longing for him.

3

Ach Herr, laß diese Gnade mich
von deiner Auffahrt spüren,
daß mit dem wahren Glauben ich
mag meine Nachfahrt zieren
und dann einmal, wenn's dir gefällt,
mit Freuden scheiden aus der Welt.
Herr, höre doch mein Flehen!

Ah God,let me feel this grace
from your ascension,
so that with the true faith I may
adorn my own future journey,
and then whenever it pleases you
with joy depart from this world.
Lord, hear my entreaty!
