Martin Petzold (Tenor)

Born: Leipzig, Germany

The German tenor, Martin Petzold, received his first musical training as a member of the Thomanerchor of his hometown Leipzig. He studied singing from 1979 to 1985 at the Leipzig University for Music and Theatre ‘Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’ with Mrs. Professor Eva Schubert and later with Bernd Siegfried Weber.

After the state examination in the 1985, Martin Petzold received a permanent engagement at the National Theatre of Halle. Since 1988 he is ensemble member of the Leipzig Opera. His repertoire includes, among other things, David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Flaut in Ein Sommernachtstraum and Iwan in Die Nase.

Beside the opera work Martin Petzold is connected with the Thomanerchor Leipzig, the Gewandhausorchester, the Orchestra of the MDR, the Freiburger Baroque Orchestra, the Dresdner Kreuzchor and the Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg. Numerous concert performances led him to international Festivals in the whole , into the USA, to Israel, Japan and South America. In particular, his interpretations of the Evangelist part in the works of J.S. Bach (led by Georg Christoph Biller, Peter Schreier and Kurt Masur) received world-wide acknowledgment.

Martin Petzold can be heard in numerous TV and Radio broadcasts as well as CD productions. Among other things, he recorded for the Decca label Entartete Musik with Lothar Zagrossek and John Mauceri. For some years has strengthened as a lecturer with international master courses, which concern particularly the interpretation of the music J.S. Bach.
