Leipziger Barockorchester (Baroque Orchestra)

Founded: 1995 - Leipzig, Germany

The Leipziger Barockorchester (= LBO) was created in 1995. It formed itself in the past years to a special ensemble for interpretation of music from the 17th and 18th centuries. The musicians in the LBO play exclusively on historical instruments as well as their original-faithful copies and connect theoretical knowledge of historical performance practices with an alive and differentiated play culture.

The active concert activity of the LBO covers regularly taking place concerts with the Thomanerchor Leipzig under their Thomaskantor George Christoph Biller, and performances with the Leipziger Vocalensemble under the direction of David Timm. In addition the LBO participated in numerous instrumental concerts, many of them in the context of the MDR-Musiksommer and the Bach Festival Leipzig. Since 1998 the LBO is integrated as accompanying orchestra in the final rounds of the International J.-S.-Bach Wettbewerb. Appearances and concert tours led the LBO to Germany, France, Grand Canary, as well as in October 2002 very successful tour to Japan.
