Matthew Brook (Bass-Baritone)

Born: England

The English bass-baritone, Matthew Brook, has appeared as a soloist throughout Europe, Australia, South Africa and the Far East, and has sung extensively as a recitalist and concert artist. During his career he has worked with Richard Hickox, Sir Charles Mackerras, Philip Pickett, Harry Christophers, Jean-Bernard Pommery, Paul McCreesh, Wolfgang Seeliger, Christopher Robinson and Sir David Willcocks. He has performed with many fine orchestras and groups, including the Philharmonia Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Northern Sinfonia, City of London Sinfonia, Gabrieli Consort, The Sixteen, New London Consort, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Orchestre Nationale de Lille and the Darmsadt Konzertchor. He is also a member of the internationally acclaimed groups the Dunedin Consort, I Fagiolini and Tenebrae.

Matthew Brook is an active song recitalist with his accompanist, Anna Markland, former BBC Young Musician of the Year. Future plans include a recording of the Mozart Requiem with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and a new commission by Anthony Powers with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2004 summer.

Matthew Brook has taken part in many recordings and broadcasts throughout the world and for the BBC. Most recently a BBC television recording of Berlioz’s L’Enfance du Christ with Richard Hickox and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and has recorded for Chandos, Hyperion, Naxos and recently for EMI in a recording of Idomeneo with Sir Charles Mackerras, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Edinburgh Festival Chorus.
