The numbers in the list below are according to the list of Thomaners in the article Bachs Privatschüler by Bernd Koska (Leipzig), in Bach in Bach-Jabhrbuch 2019, pp 26-82
The list includes all persons who might be J.S. Bach's pupils, according the following categories:
A = Secured Pupils. Person who according to the current state of knowledge, has undisputedly enjoyed J.S. Bach's private lessons.
B = Probable Pupils. Person who was probably J.S. Bach's pupils (dubious).
C = Allegedly Pupils. Person who has been wrongly treated in the past as J.S. Bach's pupil.
D = Unknown. Person who attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, but it is not known if he actually studied with him.
