Johann Friedrich Drobisch (Composer, Kantor, Bach's Pupil)

Born: October 1, 1723 - Zwickau, Saxony, Germany
Died: April 10, 1762 - Dresden, Saxony, Germany

Johann Friedrich Drobisch was a German composer. He attended the school in Zwickau and was a pupil of Johann Ludwig Krebs (A-20). He studied at at Universität Leipzig (enrollment on May 21, 1743) and was a pupil of J.S. Bach. From 1747/1748 he worked as Kantor substitute in Schneeberg; from 1753 until his death in 1762 as Kantor at the Annenkirche in Dresden. His compositions probably did not belong to the usual repertoire.

Johann Friedrich Drobisch mentioned the lessons with J.S. Bach in his application to Dresden written in Latin in 1752. He was probably recommended to J.S. Bach by his teacher Johann Ludwig Krebs.
