Year 2002

Ton Koopman Newsletter Vol. 2002-1
(May 28, 2002)

During our summer holidays my wife Tini and I often visit the nice region of the Périgord where the most beautiful roman churches can be found. Ideal places to play music. Thus the idea was born to organize a small festival around these wonderful churches. They all are very small and cannot hold more than 100 up to 400 people. Thinking of the journeys I made in the past (on my bike!) to visit the organs of different churches North of Amsterdam, the idea came up to have six simultaneous concerts in six of these churches. The audience will receive a 'season ticket' with the order of the concerts they can visit. Of course, if everybody would go to the same church at the same moment, we would have a problem! The outstanding church of Grand Brassac will be the starting point where I myself will play a few pieces on the organ and Jean Lavit, curator of the historical monuments in the region, will hold a short lecture. After this everybody goes one's way and the concerts can begin in all six churches (duration of the concerts is half an hour). The audience will have enough time to get to the next church.

The ensembles and soloists all belong to my circle of friends. I will play a harpsichord recital and my wife Tini plays the pianoforte in another church. Furthermore you can hear musicians of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir (Maggie Faultless, violin, Katherine McGillevray (viola), Patrizia Marisaldi (harpsichord), Alberto Rasi (doublebass and viola da gamba), the Egidius Ensemble, the London Haydn Quartett and the Ensemble Les Fltes Réunies.

This roundtrip via ancient fortified churches takes place only on Saturday. The 'festival' will be concluded with a festive concert on Sunday afternoon in the church of Champagne. The concerts for 2-4 harpsichords by J.S.Bach will be performed by the London Haydn Quartet, the doublebass player Alberto Rasi, his wife Patrizia Marisaldi (harpsichord) and the harpsichordists Ton Koopman, Tini Mathot and Kathryn Cok. On Sunday afternoon the church can hold only 450 people, so you will have to act quickly if you want to be included!

I do hope to see you on 6 and 7 July 2002!

Ton Koopman Newsletter Vol. 2002-3
(August 1, 2002):

We have good news !

Ton Koopman has succeeded in finding a new company to continue the Bach Complete Canatas Series. As you might know Warner Classical discontinued the series earlier this year after the release of Volume 12. We are happy to announce that in october 2002 Volume 13 will be released under a new label. Details can not be given at this time but will be in due time. You will be informed via this newsletter or directly on our website.

Ton Koopman Newsletter Vol. 2002-4
(October 18, 2002)

Some time ago, we informed you that we found a new record company to take over the release of all Bach cantatas on CD from Warner Classics. However, the practical arrangement of the contract, the financing and the publicity needed more time than expected. Therefore we did not succeed in releasing the Cantata box 13 this fall but only mid January 2003. We are sorry to keep you waiting. The contract is arranged now, and we discussed that the announcement of the new company will be done on 3 November 2002 at the latest on our website.

On behalf of Ton Koopman
Kind regards,

Caecilia de Klerk
managing director

Year 2003

Ton Koopman Newsletter Vol. 2003-1
(January 9, 2003)

The Bach Cantata project will be completed.

Antoine Marchand will complete and release the Bach Cantata project of The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Choir, soloists and Ton Koopman as sub-label under the Challenge Classics label.

The contract was signed on 3 January. Volume XIII of the Bach Cantatas will finally be issued in March 2003, with Volumes XIV and XV following later in the year. Not two, but three volumes will be released each year. Volume XXII - the last - will appear in spring 2006, thus bringing our Bach Cantata project to a close.

Also worthy of mention is the fact that beginning in May 2003 one volume of cantatas from the Erato series will be reissued each month, i.e. Volumes I through XII. Thus, in June 2004 Volumes I through XVII will be on the market.

Although the outward appearance has changed, the content remains the same,
including the outstanding contribution of Prof. Christoph Wolff.

Beginning with Volume XIII, CDs of The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Choir and Ton Koopman will be available not only from record dealers, but also through our own Internet shop as well as at concerts.

What a wonderful way to begin a new Bach year!

Ton Koopman: Artist in residence at the Bodensee Festival 2005

"The 17th Internationale Bodenseefestival has got much to offer - as can be seen on the list of events which has just been published: From 22 April to 16 May 2005 numerous events are on the programme of the renowned festival, which takes place in each of the three neighbouring states of Lake Constance. There the focus will be on an extraordinary topic: Spirituality and love of life, the search for transcendence and the pleasure of enjoying an accomplished worldly life - a range which has produced great cultural works.

With this background, the programme of the Internationale Bodenseefestival 2005 offers a colourful range of concerts, literary events, exhibitions, and theatre performances.

For the first time, the festival 2005 will have an "artistic centre", the internationally renowned organist and conductor Ton Koopman. Ton Koopman will have concerts on eight sites, some of them as a soloist, but also with "his" ensemble, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. With this ensemble he is realizing his ideas of interpretation of Baroque and Classical music true to the spirit of the oeuvres.''
