Description

Taubach is a small village in Thuringia, south-east to Weimar, within sight of the Schloss Belvedere, and near the town of Mellingen. The main occupation of its about 1,100 inhabitants are various economical and cultural activities. About 20 businesses and companies are located in the place.

History

Taubach was first mentioned as "Thovbeche" with mention of its mill in Schenkungsurkunde of 1120. It is thereby the oldest mill location in Thuringia confirmed by a document.

The church building in Taubach has the first reference in 1462. The current appearance of the St. Ursula Church was re-built in 1855 by the Weimar architect Clemens Wenceslaus Coudray. One of its pastors was the Thuringian poet August Ludwig.

In 1990 a zoning plan was drawn up, taking into account the beneficiary of the natural environment and the development of Taubach. Upon the decision of the local council in 1994, Taubach was integrated into the city of Weimar.

 

Bach Connection

J.S. Bach visited Taubach in 1710, while he was serving at the Weimar court, for examining the new organ (11 stops, 1 section) built by H.N. Trebs.
