Version in modern German

1. Arie

Itzt geht der Lebensfuerst zum Tode;
ach, Seele, schau ihm sehnlich nach!
Ihn traegt der Fuss zu Hoellenleiden,
dass dich zu ew’gem Himmelsfreuden
des hoechsten Engel tragen mag.

2. Rezitativ

Zwar nimmt man Jesum froehlich auf;
es eilt zu ihm des Volkes schneller Lauf;
es ehret ihn ein Lobgeschrei.
Doch leider, ach! es stirbt hernach
die erste Lieb‘ und treu.

3. Arie

Ach, wie, bedeckt der Erde Zucker
den Gift der zugedachten Not!
Sie kuesst jedoch mit Judaslippen;
sie deckt jedoch mit harten Klippen;
Wer heut umarmt schlaegt morgen tot.
