Version in modern German

1. Arie

Mein Glaube ringt in letzten Zuegen;
Herr, steh‘ ihm doch mit Staerkung bei!
Lass deines Geistes sanftes Sachen
mein glimmend Doechtlein lodernd machen,
dass seine Flamme scheinend sei!

2. Rezitativ

Getrost! Des Hoellenreiches Staerke,
der Weltlist schlaue Werke,
des Fleisches Reiz und Locken,
die sollen nicht so stark, so schlau, so reizend sein, von Jesu mich zu trennen;
durch Gottes Kraft wird‘ ich mich wieder sie verstocken
und in dem Kampfe sie besiegen koennen.

3. Arie

Herr Jesu! Du, du bist mein Leben,
du bist mein Trost, du bist mein Heil.
Wenn Schwerter klingen, Ketten rasseln,
wenn Seufzer schluchsen, Keile prasseln,
bist du mein Schild, mein Schutz, mein Teil.
