Thomas Shepherd wrote (April 19, 2007):One of the advantages of this subscription series is that the CDs arrive slightly before the general release date. In the case of Vol. 23 that date is 30th April. "WorldPay" took the money (£15) on Sunday ( in anticipation I get all excited when that firm posts an email of confirmation!) and the discs arrived here this morning. It's another excellent 2 CD set with the remainder of the Easter Cantatas (for Easter Tuesday, !st and 2nd Sunday of Easter). there is much very happy and gentle music beautifully performed, recorded and presented. The series is now beginning to take up a noticeable amount of space in the CD shelves and I hope Monteverdi Productions get the remaining volumes out as quickly as possible. It is possible to hear examples following the links at: http://www.monteverdi.co.uk/recordings/forthcoming.cfm |

In 2005, four double-sets and one single set were released. The same was true in 2006 and, according to the newletter, the same holds true for 2007. By the end of this year, then, 27 CD's will have been released. Several of the Pilgrimage recordings were released on Archiv, so I'm not sure how many more concerts will be released on SDG. But it seems, at this rate, that the entire series will not be completed until 2009 or 2010. |

Neil Halliday wrote (April 20, 2007):You can listen to Gardiner's lovely version of BWV 85's soprano chorale: http://www.monteverdi.co.uk/recordings/forthcoming.cfm (click on the CD cover). As has been stated elsewhere, this movement is in the form of a trio sonata, with soprano chorale. Among other things, I like the 'Trad Jazz' style (!) of the continuo line. Fuge's voice is most satisfying. |

It seems to me that DGG merely used the label "Cantata Pilgrimage" as a marketing buzzword. If you take the whitsunday-Cantatas for instance, the recordings in the soli deo gloria series are completely different from those issued on Archiv (in this particular case I prefer the Archiv recording). On the website It is stated that 51 CDS will be released overall, so we're more than halfway through: (http://www.solideogloria.co.uk/about_us/sdg.cfm). |
