Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum Leipzig (Instrumental Ensemble)
Founded: 1979 - Leipzig, Germany |
In 1979 members of the Gewandhaus Orchestra founded Das Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum Leipzig (= NBCML). The name refers to the ‘Collegium Musicum’ founded by G.P. Telemann in 1702, which J.S. Bach himself headed from 1729. The Thomaskantor gave regular concerts in Leipzig’s coffee-houses with the orchestra, which mainly comprised students, and wrote many works for this ensemble including many of his secular cantatas (for example, the Coffee Cantata BWV 211). |
