Alexander Ferdinand Grychtolik (b 1980)

Markus-Passion BWV 247 (2010)
Description: A first edition of the late version of the St. Mark Passion (from 1744). Made as a stylistic consistent reconstruction, published by Edition Peters.
Text: The text of this unknown later version was discovered 2009 in Saint Petersburg. In this version, Bach added two arias and he made small changes in Picander´s text.

Desription: Commissioned by the International Bachakademie Stuttgart to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the death of J.S. Bach.
World premiere: September 1, 2000 during the European Music Festival Stuttgart, conducted by Velery Gergiev. First part of the two-work cycle "Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ according to St. John”. The other composers are: Osvaldo Golijo, Wolfgang Rihm, Tan Dun.
