German Text (verses in bold print set by Bach)

English Translation

1. Singt dem Herrn ein neues Lied,
Die Gemeinde soll ihn loben,
Weil er ihren Grenzen Fried'
Hat versprochen hoch von oben.
Israel sich freue dessen,
Welcher ihn gemachet hat
Und in Ängsten schaffet Rat.
Seiner soll er nicht vergessen.

To be added

2. Zion übe deinen Gott
Freue dich samt deinem Samen,
Halt in Ehren sein Gebot,
Lobe seinen werten Namen.
Nimm die Pauken, nimm die Saiten,
Such hervor das Harfenspiel,
Weil er's selbst so haben will,
Seine Wunder auszubreiten.

3. Denn der Herr hat Lust an dir,
Wie an seinem eignen Volke.
Er lässt schweben für und für
Über dir die Gnaden-Wolke.
Herrlich hält er auch dem Armen,|
Wenn er ihm zu Fuße fällt,
Sein Vertrauen auf ihn stellt,
Will er seiner sich erbarmen.

4. Drum sei fröhlich allezeit,
Aller Sorgen dich entschütte.
Danke seiner Herrlichkeit,
Preise seine große Güte.
Lob ihn alles nah und ferren,
Was nur Lebens-Atem trägt,
Was nur seine Glieder regt,
Lobet alle Gott, den Herrn.
