Piotr Jaworski wrote (July 29, 2002):Query ... probably to our American and German colleagues .... Does anyone know (best: have) 'Goldberg Variations' performed by the famous refugee from nazi Germany - Grete Sultan? Issued as the part of the first volume of her "Legacy" by Concord Concerto label - if I remember correctly... |

Charlie Ervin McCarn wrote (July 29, 2002):[To Piotr Jaworski] A friend of mine played this for me a couple of years ago. If I remember what he told me accurately, she recorded the whole kit and kaboodle in one sitting, with no retakes. It was a fascinating and satisfying recording. If no one else on the list can give you the specifics on the set, please let me know and I will ask my friend for the information. |

Piotr Jaworski wrote (July 29, 2002):[To Charlie Ervin McCarn] I will me most obliged! Especially when your friend will let you stay for some time and to listen to this recordings carefully! ;-) I've recently read very interesting article about Grete Sultan, than several reviews of her recordings followed - my feeling is that her recordings are one of those rare things that Bach lover should not miss... |

I have the recording, and I consider it to be one of the many top class recordings of the "Goldbergs". Click here: Grete Sultan - The Legacy, Volume One Concord Jazz - 42030 SELECTIONS: DISC ONE Fünf Klavierstücke, Op. 23 (297Kwave) (Arnold Schönberg) Klavierstuck, Op. 33a (Arnold Schönberg) Music of Changes, Part I (John Cage) The Perilous Night (John Cage) Douze Etudes, Book II (7 - 11) (Claude Debussy) DISC TWO Goldberg Variations (297Kwave) (J.S.
