Berthold Schindler (Tenor)

Born: Burglengenfeld, Bavaria, Germany

The German lyrical tenor, Berthold Schindler, made his first steps as a singer during his time with the Regensburger Domspatzen. He completed his language and literary studies in 2015 at the Universities of Regensburg (Universität Regensburg: 2006-2012), Munich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) and Columbia, Missouri (2012-2014) with honors and since then dedicates himself entirely to singing.

After years of artistic activity as a counter-tenor in various professional German-speaking ensembles, Berthold Schindler moved under his teacher Hartmut Elbert to the tenor voice, in which he now appears mainly as a soloist. He regularly collaborates with the leading German Baroque orchestras La Banda and Concerto München, including Haydn's Nelsonmesse, the Baroque opera Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell, and a solo performance of J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248). His passion for ensemble singing has remained: with friends from Hochschule für Musik und Theater München he founded the soloist ensemble Vodeon. He is also a member of the Kammerchor Stuttgart and their Vokalsolisten under Frieder Bernius.

Berthold Schindler now appears as an opera singer in appearance: In November and December 2017, he performed the role of Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and the Jaquino in Fidelio by L.v. Beethoven. Following his debut with J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244 in the spring of 2018, together with La Banda, he will sing Dancaïro in Carmen by Georges Bizet under the baton of Thomas Baron. At the Dehnberger Hoftheater in 2018 he will be heard as Beppe in Donizetti's comic opera Rita. Currently, he is studying with the functional vocal pedagogue Susanne Eisch from Minden according to the Rabine method.

On days off, Berthold Schindler still indulges in his hobby, journalism: numerous contributions and texts are published by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Bayerischen Rundfunk. He currently lives in Munich, Germany.
