Jamie MacDougall (Tenor)

Born: Glasgow, Scotland, UK

The Scottish tenor, Jamie Macdougall, won scholarships to both the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and was a finalist of the Kathleen Ferrier Singing Competition.

Jamie Macdougall made his debut with the English National Opera singing the role of Odoardo and covering Lurcanio in George Frideric Handel's Ariodante. Other operatic roles include Peter Quint in Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw for Pimlico Opera; Gluck's Alceste for the English Bach Festival in Monte Carlo and Covent Garden; First Shepherd and Apollo in Monteverdi's Orfeo in Granada with Nicholas Kraemer. He has also sung Acis in Acis and Galatea and Comus in Purcell's King Arthur in concert performances with The English Concert under Trevor Pinnock, recorded for DG/Archiv.

Concert engagements include appearances with The English Concert, London Mozart Players, The King's Consort, St. James Baroque Players and Les Musiciens du Louvre together with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, London Festival Orchestra, Belgian Radio Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra and Houston Symphony Orchestra, with conductors including Frans Brüggen, Trevor Pinnock, Richard Hickox, Marc Minkowski, Nicholas Kraemer, Robert King and Ivor Bolton. He recently took part in Jonathan Miller's dramatisation of J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in the Britain and Spain. This project also included a BBC television broadcast and a CD recording. Other recent engagements have included Fernando in G.F. Handel's Almira in Bremen and at the Händel Festival in Halle, Germany, Septimus in G.F. Handel's Theodora with the St. James Baroque Players/Ivor Bolton, G.F. Handel's Alexander's Feast with the RIAS Chamber Choir in Berlin and Second Shepherd and Apollo in Monteverdi's Orfeo in Valencia.

Jamie Macdougall took part in the television series 'Highway', with Sir Harry Secombe in Scotland and in the Wigmore Hall's International Songmakers Recital Series. He has also given recitals with The Songmakers Almanac, at the Buxton Festival, for BBC Radio and in Ayr and Edinburgh. Future plans include Orpheus in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld for Opera North, Messiah with the Hallé Orchestra under Roger Vignoles, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra/Christopher Seaman and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
