Natalie Hüskens (Contralto)

Born: September 12, 1983 - Mönchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

The German contralto, Natalie [Nathalie] Hüskens, got early piano lessons in Mönchengladbach, her home town. She studied at Gymnasium Neuwerk in Mönchengladbach (1994-2003). This was followed by Music and German studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (2004-2009) and the Universität zu Köln, which she began with a major in piano. Increasingly, the singing emerged as her focus, which was specifically promoted by her singing teachers Judith Lindenbaum and Sabine Falter. She developed singing through master-classes and lessons with the alto Ingeborg Danz and the vocal artist Hartmut Singer.

This was followed by concert and competition participation with renowned ensembles such as the Kammerchor der Musikhochschule Köln (Director: Marcus Creed), Kölner Kammerchor (Director: Peter Neumann), Chorwerk Ruhr (Director: Rupert Huber; 2009), Kölner Akademie (Director: Michael Willens), Chorus Musicus Köln (Director: Christoph Spering) and Kammerchor Consono (Director: Harald Jers).

Concert tours took Natalie Hüskens throughout Germany as well as to France, Spain, Ireland (Cork International Choral Festival) and Belgium (Namur en chœurs). She had choral solo performances with all the choir alto solos from Felix Mendelssohn's Elias at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Beethovenfest Bonn and the Essen Philharmonic. She is also heard on the ECHO Klassik-winning CD recording under the direction of Christoph Spering. Her solo work includes above all the church music repertoire of J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel and W.A. Mozart, with which she performs mainly in the NRW area. At the same time, she devotes herself to the fondness of new music. In this context, she sang in 2009 in the Ruhrtriennale production of Arnold Schoenberg's Moses und Aron, directed by Willy Decker, in 2012, 2013 and 2016 at the concert series "Mystische Nacht" by the Düsseldorf regional cantor Odilo Klasen and at the Kölner Musiknacht 2015. She currently lives in Düsseldorf, Germany.
