Elisabeth Hermans (Soprano)

Born: Belgium

The Belgian soprano, Elisabeth Hermans, studied at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven, Belgium, where she received her final diploma and first prize in voice under Lieve Vanhaverbeke. She subsequently pursued her studies in voice with Lucienne Van Deyck at the Antwerp Conservatory and also participated in specialisation courses given by Greta De Reyghere.

As an ensemble singer Elisabeth Hermans is active in many internationally known groups, such as Collegium Vocale Gent, La Chapelle Royale, La Petite Bande, the Huelgas Ensemble, and the Nederlandse Bachvereniging. With these ensembles she has made numerous CD, radio and television recordings and has toured the world from New York to Hong Kong.

In recent years Elisabeth Hermans has appeared more and more frequently as a soloist in cantatas, oratorios and passions - with a special preference for the works of J.S. Bach. In 2007 she recorded a CD consisting out of comforting songs with Bart Naessens. She also started a project with him called BachPlus, to perform cantates from J.S. Bach in a historically correct way.
