Barbara Fink (Soprano)

Born: Hartberg, Styria, Austria

The Austrian soprano, Barbara Fink, graduated from Hartberg Business College (Bundeshandelsakademie); then she studied at the Musikhochschule Graz (today known as University of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz), Oberschützen Institute, with Wolfgang Gamerith (Voice) and Christine Whittlesey (Lied & Oratorio). In 1996 she was awarded the certificate as a qualified instructor for voice and vocal training, in 1997 she passed her final recital examination with distinction (diploma “Lied and Oratorio”). She continued her formation attending various master-classes with Paul Esswood, Jill Feldman, Kurt Widmer, Kurt Equiluz, and Ian Caddy, amongst others.

Barbara Fink is a longstanding member of various singing companies and ensembles, such as the Domkantorei Graz, a piú voci, Cantus, KMV Hartberg, and performed as a soloist with ensembles playing historical instruments, such as Capella Musicae, Capella Leopoldina, Armonico Tributo Austria, Orchestra Barocco di Bologna. Ultimately, she performed with Coro Friuli Venezia Giulia and Orchestra Barocco di Bologna, conducted by Gustav Leonhardt. She also performes regularly as a soloist in the cycle “Bach XXI”, a project of the Domkantorei Graz conducted by Josef M. Doeller.

Her love for church music and early music has already lead Barbara Fink to perform in churches and concert halls in many different places in Austria, Poland, Germany, Italy, Hungary, and the Philippines (e.g. Bamboo Organ Festival, Manila), to name only a few.

Barbara Fink’s repertoire includes oeuvres from the 15th to the 21st century, from J.S. Bach to F. Zebinger, all parts for soprano of the early, classical or modern oratorios, world premiers and first releases amongst them. She recorded for radio broadcasting as well as for CD productions, e.g. Lieder by F.J. Haydn, or “Pastorelle” by Georg Philipp Telemann, respectively. Most recently, she performed at the Salzburg Festival, with Sir Roger Norrington conducting.
