Bach in Arts - Hommage a Bach
Tribute to Bach & Bach-inspired Art Works
Klankkleuren van Passie (Soundcolours of Passion) |
|
In july 2013, a unique exhibition will take place in the old town of Naarden, near Utrecht, the Netherlands.
Four Dutch artists show works inspired by their love for J.S. Bach’s Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in the 'Grote Kerk'. In this beautiful church from the14th century, from 1921 on the Matthew Passion (BWV 244) is yearly performed around Good Friday.
The four artists have -each in their own way- faced the challenge to 'translate' the music created by Bach to lines, forms and rhythm. To paintings and sculptures. A series of photographs taken on the Way of the Cross in the Old centre of Jeruzalem, is also part of the exhibition.
The exhibition is called" Klankkleuren van Passie" (freely translated: "Soundcolours of Passion") and will be open from july 6 to july 28 (opening times are on the card below)
The Grote Kerk is in the centre of the old city of Naarden: an example of a star fort, complete with fortified walls and a moat, dating back to the middle ages. |
The photos below show a combination of sculptures inspired by Bach, made by constructivist, sculptor Henk van Putten: a Dutch sculptor living in Auroville/India (www.henkvanputten.com), and paintings -made on aria's of the Matthew Passion, by Christine Bangert (Haarlem, Holland, 1966) (www.bangertkunst.nl) |
