Helmut Wittek (Boy Soprano)

Born: May 1, 1973 - Germany

The German sound enginner (and former boy soprano), Helmut Wittek, was a member of the Tölzer Knabenchor as a soloist and teacher from 1980 to 1996. He studied musicology at "Musikwissenschaften" in Munich in 1994-1995. He studied at Ton- und Bildtechnik" (sound and video engineering) in Düsseldorf from 1996 to 2000, receiving degree "Dipl-Ing." (engineer); Diplomarbeit (Master's thesis) at the Institut für Rundfunktechnik in Munich in 2000.

Helmut Wittek's recordings as a boy soprano include: Bach: Cantatas & Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) with Concentus Musicus Wien / Nikolaus Harnoncourt (Teldec/Unitel), Heinrich Schütz: Kleine Geistliche Konzerte (Capriccio), Gustav Mahler: Symphony No .4 with Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam / Leonard Bernstein (Deutsche Grammophon). Further highlights of career: J. Strauss: Fledermaus (role of Orlofsky) at Nederlandse Opera / Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

Since 1998 Helmut Wittek has been freelance sound engineer. From 2001 to 2005 he was Research Enineer at the Institut für Rundfunktechnik in Munich, Fields of Action: Wave Field Synthesis (CARROUSO), Psychoacoustics and Stereophonic techniques - Supervision of a number of Master's theses. Since 2002 he is Research student at the Institute of Sound Recording at the University of Surrey (Dr Rumsey, Dr Theile). Since April 2005 he is Sales and Development Engineer at Schoeps Mikrofone GmbH in Karlsruhe, Germany, and since March 2007 he Head of Engineering and Technical Support at the same company.
