Wolfram Wehnert (Choral Conductor)

Born: Germany

The German choral conductor, Wolfram Wehnert, studied choral and orchestral conducting at Frankfurt University.

Wolfram Wehnert worked with different choirs and orchestras in Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Mainz. He has conducted the Marburger Bachchor from 1970 to 2001.

From 1973 to 1982 Wolfram Wehnert taught choral and orchestral conducting at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. Since 1982 he has held the position of a Professor of Choral and Ensemble Conducting at the Hanover College of Music and Theatre. Besides his work as a college teacher he is or has been the artistic director of numerous conducting workshops and musical festivals in Germany, France and the USA. He often receives invitations as a guest conductor or as a juror at choir competitions at home or abroad. Wolfram Wehnert's name is closely connected with the re-discovery of the church music of Jan Dismas Zelenka.

In honour of his achievements as a musician and a teacher the Ministry for Science and Art of Lower Saxony gave him the award to stay at the Deutsche Akademie Villa Massimo in Rome in 1999 as a guest of honour.
