Marburger Bachchor (Choir)

Born: 1966 - Marburg, Germany

The Marburger Bachchor (Marburg Bach Choir) is a supra-regional ensemble that performs pieces of music, both a-cappella and accompanied by instruments, from various epoques of musical history. Its musical and artistic quality has contributed to the fact that the choir has found its place in the range between professional and layman-choirs in the German-speaking countries. The choir has been given special acknowledgement because of the re-discovery and performances of the church music of the Bach-contemporary Jan Dismas Zelenka. International cultural projects (e.g. Days of German Culture in Moscow in October 1999), the participation in numerous festivals, the production of LP's and CD's and the participation in radio recordings have always belonged to the work of the choir. Special emphasis has been given to the attempt to find a faithful realization of the manifold repertoire. In recent years performances accompanied by historical instruments have found an increasing importance.
