Universitästchor Bielefeld (Choir)
Born: 1977 - Bielefeld, Germany
Dr. Werner Hümmeke led the Universitästchor Bielefeld (= UCB), since its created by him in 1977. In the sense "Studium generale" (general studies) offer to students of all faculties and remaining members of the university an opportunity to comprehensive work in music by joining the about members of the choir. One of the choir's goals is to present to the public also less well-known works. So the oratorio Salomo by G.F. Händel was performed for the first time in Bielefeld and Münster.
The work of the choir since its establishment promoted by the Westfälisch-Lippische Universitätsgesellschaft, the University and the City of Bielefeld. For several years co-operation with the office for culture make possible concerts in the acoustically protruding Rudolf-Oetker-Halle. Besides, the choir experiences a valuable assistance for the financing of the concerts by donation of the Hanns-Bisegger-Stiftung.
After the years 1994-1996, in which Carmina Burana by C. Orff and the Missa da Requiem by G. Verdi appeared on CD, the choir recorded in the forthcoming years many more albums. For the concerts of the choir renowned singers were engaged, including soloists from big Opera Houses such as Hamburg and Hannover. The UCB has appeared with the Südwestfälische Philharmonie and Landesorchester NRW, among others.
