Oratorienchor Münster (Choir)

Founded: Münster, Germany

The Oratorienchor Münster is a big mixed choir with about 100 members at present. Students and members of all faculties in the Münster University sing in the choir, in addition to other interested citizens of the city.

At the end of the winter semester 2002-2003, Professor Dr. Werner Hümmeke as working group of the Kathedrale Studentengemeinde Münster created Motettenchor renamed in Oratorienchor Münster. This choir designation corresponds for a long time to the usual repertoire. Institut für Musikwissenschaft und Musikpädagogik of the University became at the same time new carriers of the choir.

The concerts take place in proven co-operation with the Universitätschor Bielefeld, which is likewise led by the Werner Hümmeke, who teaches at the University there (performances in Münster and Bielefeld). Under his direction they have performed so far among other things: Messiah (George Frideric Handel), Die Schöpfung (Haydn), die c-moll-Messe (Mozart), Paulus (Felix Mendelssohn), Carmina Burana (Orff), Liverpool Oratorio (McCartney) and the Requiems of Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Fauré and Verdi. Some of the concerts were also recorded and released in CD form, among them C. Orff's Carmina Burana, G. Verdi's Requiem, F. Mendelssohn's Elias, J. Brahms' Requiem, L.v. Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248).
