Judith Raskin (Soprano)

Born: June 21, 1928 - New York, USA
Died: December 21, 1984 - New York, USA

The noted American soprano, Judith Raskin, studied at Smith College, graduating in 1949. She took private voice lessons with Anna Hamlin in New York.

Judith Raskin's stage career received an impetus in July 1956, when she sang the title role in Douglas Moore’s folk opera The Ballad of Baby Doe, premiered in Central City, Colorado. In 1957 she became a member of the NBC-TV Opera. In 1959 she joined the New York City Opera. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in New York in February 1962, as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro. She sang there until 1972.

Judith Raskin taught at the Manhattan School of Music and the 92nd Street “y” School of Music in New York from 1975, and also at the Mannes College there from 1976.
