Lothar Odinius (Tenor)

Born: 1966 - Aachen, Germany

The German tenor, Lothar Odinius, was given his first singing lessons in 1989 and participated in master classes with Bernd Weikl in 1990. Between 1991 and 1995 he studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts with Professor Anke Eggers. He attended further master classes with Ingrid Bjoner and Alfredo Kraus and since 1993 he has regularly attended the classes of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

In 1995 Lothar Odinius performed the title role of Franz Schubert’s Lazarus as part of the Schubertiade Feldkirch and at the Bad Hersfeld Festpiele he sang the role of Peril in Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio; a performance for which he was awarded the ‘Orpheus Prize’ for best vocal newcomer. Since the 1995-1996 season he has had a fixed engagement as lyric tenor of the Staatstheater Braunschweig, where he first sang Fernando in Cosi fan tutte and Mozart’s Bastien. In addition to Lieder recitals and concerts Lothar Odinius can also be heard in Schubert’s Magic Harp under the direction of Heinz Holliger, Eugen d'Albert's Die Toten Augen under Rolf Weikert, in the new ion of the Magic Flute at the Opera in Bonn, and in performances of Bach’s St. John Passion (BWV 245) and F. Mendelssohn’s Elias under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe.
