Lucia Martín-Cartón (Soprano)

Born: Valladolid, Spain

The Spanish soprano, Lucía Martín-Cartón, studied violin and singing in Valladolid; she received her Higher Degree in Singing from the Joaquin Rodrigo Conservatory in Valencia. She holds a Masters in Ancient Music Performance from ESMUC, Barcelona. In 2015 she was awarded First Prize in the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition: Ancient and Baroque Music Repertoire section.

Lucía Martín-Cartón was part of Le Jardin des Voix 2015, a project by Les Arts Florissants, conducted by William Christie and Paul Agnew, with whom she has been on tour several times around Europe, Australia, Asia and New York. Other than William Christie and Paul Agnew, she has worked with conductors such as Jordi Savall, Leonardo García-Alarcón, José Ramón Encinar, Sébastien d’Hérin, Xavier Díaz-Latorre and Alexis Kossenko, as well as stage directors including Gustavo Tambascio, Robert Carsen, Sophie Daneman and Davide Montagna.

Lucía Martín-Cartón has performed in numerous concert halls in Europe, USA, Asia and Australia, notably La Philharmonie de Paris, the Palace of Versailles (Royal Chapel and Petit Trianon), Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Centre, KKL Luzern, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, DeSingel in Antwerpen, Lincoln Center of New York, Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, Hong Kong City Hall, L’Auditori de Barcelona and Salle Flagey in Brussels. She has also performed in major festivals such as Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, Festival d’Ambronay, Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Bach Biennale Weimar, Dans les Jardins de William Christie, Klangvokal Musikfestival in Dortmund and the Maguelone Music Festival. In addition, she has also worked with different ensembles such as Cappella Mediterranea, La La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Choeur de Chambre de Namur, Laberintos Ingeniosos, La Grande Chapelle and Música Temprana.

Lucía Martín-Cartón has performed in operas like W.A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (Pamina) and Don Giovanni (Zerlina), Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice (Amore), Blow’s Venus &Adonis (Venus), Campra's Les Fêtes Vénitiennes (Irène), La guerra de los gigantes (Novia) and El imposible mayor en amor, le vence Amor (Siringa) by Sebastián Durón. In oratorio, she has sung Nabucco (Misaele and Superbia) by Falvetti, Requiem and Exsultate, Jubilate by W.A. Mozart, Messiah by George Frideric Handel, Cantatas BWV 8, BWV 10, BWV 51, BWV 61 and BWV 114 and Magnificat (BWV 243) by J.S. Bach, Nelson Mass by Haydn, Mass No. 2 by Schubert and Carmina Burana by Orff, among others.

Lucía Martín-Cartón has made recordings for record labels Brilliant, AliaVox and Ricercar, to name only a few, as well as live recordings for Radio France, Radio Catalunya Música and Musiq’3 Belgium.
