Phillip Langshaw (Bass)

Born: February 5, 1938 - Sydney, Australia

The Australian-born bass and music pedagogue, Phillip Langshaw, cornpleted his extensive musical studies in Australia, Germany and Switzerland. In 1972 he came to Cologne to study on a scholarship at the Musikhochschule Köln with Heinz Marten.

Phillip Langshaw has become an internationally-known artist in the bass genre through numerous engagements at festivals and concerts in Europe, Asia and Australia. His unusual vocal quality and extreme musicality have impressed both audiences and the press alike. His differentiated and expressive treatment of text in the Lieder and oratorio areas also play a role in making artistic encounters with his memorable experiences. His repertoire includes literature from the early Baroque period to the modern music. Numerous radio-, LP- and television recordings attest to the artist' s unusually high musical standard and versatility.

Phillip Langshaw was emplyed as a voice instructor at the Rhineland State Academy of Music and has also served as an instructor in master-classes in Germany, England, and Holland. He teaches as a professor at the Musikhochschule Köln. He now lives in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
