Founded: 1978 - USA
The Blanche Moyse Chorale (= BMC) was chartered by the Brattleboro Center in 1978. Although nearly all of its members are amateurs, each singer is chosen by audition on the basis of vocal quality and musicianship. Every member makes a commitment to rehearse twice a week, with occasional all-day sessions or weekend ‘retreats’
Wide acclaim has followed the performances of the Blanche Moyse Chorale. It has garnered special praise for its appearances with the New England Bach Festival. In Bach’s tercentenary year, the Festival’s production of the St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) won recognition from the New York Times as the ‘best Bach performance of the year’. A large portion of the Chorale’s year is devoted to the study of music by Bach, with performances during the Bach Festival in the fall and at the Marlboro Music Festival in the summer. The winter and the spring are devoted to a cappella singing, with study of music spanning from the Renaissance to the 20th century. Over the past 11 years, the Chorale has made am increasing commitment to the a cappella literature, and has performed concerts throughout New England.
