Joachim Neugart (Choral Conductor, Organ)

Born: 1960 - Germany

The German choral conductor, organist and church musician, Joachim Neugart, began studying the organ at the age of 16. After his first successes in competition at “Jugend musiziert” as a student of cathedral organist Leo Krämer in Speyer, he completed a degree in church music at the Musikhochschule Saarbrücken, majoring in organ with Professor Andre Luy (Lausanne) and conducting with Volker Hempfling. He graduated in 1985 with the concert exam and the state music teacher examination. In 1986 he received the advancement award for young artists of the city of Kaiserslautern. He took part successfully in competitions in Bruges and Munich.

In 1988, Joachim Neugart was appointed cathedral cantor at the Romanesque Quirinusmünster in Neuss. Here he is responsible for the direction of the choirs (Münsterchor, Kammerchor Capella Quirina) as well as the organ music in the liturgy and concert. He is the artistic director of the concert series “Orgelsommer Neuss”. In 2015, he founded the Vocalensemble Cantus Neuss & Barockensemble Sonare Neuss. Numerous CD recordings and radio recordings are evidence of his artistic activity.

In addition to performing J.S. Bach's organ works, one of the main concerns of Joachim Neugart's work is improvisation and the preoccupation with modern organ music. Concert tours as a soloist and as a partner of the pan flutist Matthias Schlubeck have taken him to many European countries, to the USA, Russia and several times to Japan and Australia.

From 1994 to 2001, Joachim Neugart taught conducting at the Kirchenmusikschule St. Gregorius-Haus in Aachen. Under his direction, the Kammerchor gave highly regarded concerts in the Rhineland and went on concert tours to Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Since 1999 he has been the conductor of the Neusser Kammerorchester and since 2002 the conductor of the Schönhausenchore Krefeld. From 2003 to 2006 he worked as a lecturer in choral conducting at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf.

Concert tours have taken Joachim Neugart to almost all European countries, to the USA, Russia, Australia and New Zealand. He has given many concerts at the invitation of the Choral Arts Society Tokyo with the Triphony Hall in Tokyo. He was engaged as a conductor several times at the Theatersommer in der Goethestadt Bad Lauchstädt as musical director for opera productions, for example for the opera Acis und Galatea by George Frideric Handel (2015).

Choir conducting courses in Germany and Japan as well as CD recordings as a conductor and organist also give evidence of Joachim Neugart's versatile musical activity.
