Cantata BWV 153
Schau, lieber Gott, wie meine Feind
Provenance
|
Thomas Braatz wrote (July 7, 2003):BWV 153 - Provenance: Only the original set of parts has survived. It is unknown just how it eventually came to the BB (Staatsbibliothek Berlin) where it is located today. The parts are as follows: 1. Canto 2. Alto 3. Tenore 4. Baßo 5. Violino 1mo 6. Violino 2do 7. Viola 8. Continuo 9. Continuo (transposed and figured) The bulk of the copy work was done by Johann Andreas Kuhnau with additional help from 3 other unnamed copyists. Bach did the revisions and corrections. He added the figures to #9 above as well as the articulation, dynamics, tempo markings, etc. Date of Composition and 1st Performance: January 2, 1724. There is a good possibility of parodies of earlier works, particularly in the case of mvt. 8. An examination of the Bach’s autograph score could easily have given significant indications in this regard. [Dürr, below, explains that the vocal part of mvt. 8 appears very much to be an example of ‘Vokaleinbau’ – the vocal line was added to an already existing minuet.] |
