Andrzej Teske (Translator)

Born: November 23, 1941 - Warsaw, Republic of Poland

Andrzej Armin Teske graduated from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin AD 1964 (physics) and worked there from 1963 to 1987. He obtained his doctorate in 1976. He was member of the Polish Physical Society (1965-1987). From September 1980 in Independent Self-governing Trade Union "Solidarity", chairman of the Founding Committee. Chairman of the Faculty Committee at the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, since October 1980 a member of the University Founding Committee of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, from December 1980 in the Founding Committee: chairman of the intervention committee, a member of the team for the implementation of demands, from June 1981 a member of the staff and university team, in April and May 1981 delegate to the First Provincial Congress of Delegates of the Central and Eastern Region, member of the Audit Committee of the Congress.

Andrzej Teske patricipated in a strike which took place on December 14, 1981 in the building of the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences (strike interrupted after the intervention of ZOMO in the Grześ Academic House and in the rector's office). He was co-organizer of assistance for the repressed, he delivered lists of repressed people to Warsaw (contacts at the Warsaw University of Technology and the Holy Cross church) and distributor of underground publications in the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences, incl. "Informator of the Central and Eastern Region of NSZZ" Solidarność" and "Tygodnik Mazowsze"; shared (with his wife Elżbieta Teske) an apartment for secret meetings. In 1982, after a search in the apartment, he was interrogated by the communist national police. Andrzej Teske took part in importing (1985-1989) hard-to-reach medicines to Peoples Republic of Poland. He was (1987-1989) liaison within the independent Social Science Committee.

In 1990 Andrzej Teske left ,,Solidarność''. He was a member of the Citizens' Movement for Democratic Action (1990-1994). He retired in 2006.


Andrzej Teske translated J.S. Bach's secular cantatas into Polish with his son, Armin Teske, who dealt with the church cantatas. They were published in 2004 in a supplement to a book of Alfred Dürr Cantatas of Jan Sebastian Bach' (publishing house "Polihymnia').
