Pierre Luboshutz (Arranger, Piano)

Born: June 17, 1891 - Odessa, Russia
Died: April 17, 1971 - Rockport, Maine, USA

The Russian-American pianist Pierre Luboshutz [Luboschutz; real name: Luboshitz], brother of Léa Luboshutz (violinist and teacher), studied violin with his father. He then turned to the piano, and entered the Moscow Conservatory as a pupil of Igumnov, graduating in 1912. He also studied in Paris with Edouard Risler.

Returning to Russia, Pierre Luboshutz played in a trio with his 2 sisters, Léa (violin) and Anna (cello). In 1926, he went to America as accompanist to Zimbalist, Piatigorsky, and others. In 1931 he married Genia Nemenoff (1905-1989); with her he formed a piano duo (New York debut, January 18, 1937). As Luboshutz-Nemenoff, they gave annual concerts with considemble success. From 1962 to 1968 they headed the piano department at Michigan State Univversity then returned to New York.
