Ram Da-Oz (Composer)

Born: October 17, 1929 - Berlin, Germany

The German-born Israeli composer Ram Da-Oz (born: Avraham Daus), settled as a child in Palestine with his parents in 1934. He studied oboe and piano at the Conservatory in Tel Aviv, and composition with Andre Hajdu at the Music Academy there. While still a student, he joined the Israel Defence Force in the war of Independence in 1948, was wounded and lost his eyesight. Continuing his musical studies, he took up composition with Professor A. Hajos and graduated from the Israel Academy of Music in Tel-Aviv, in 1953. He later made his home in Haifa.

Ram Da-Oz has composed works for piano (many of which are especially written for piano students of various grades), songs, chamber music, and works for orchestra.
